The music industry has been male-dominated for decades, and one local event is aiming to change that.

The MEOW Day event this weekend is focused on empowering women in the world of music.

In particular, Laura Taylor, the senior Vice President of Operations for Guitar Center, will make the trip to Austin from Los Angeles. She'll talk about recent changes to the stores in order to make it more female-friendly.

Guitar Center has been hiring more women, changing advertisement strategies and banning sexist guitar magazines from the stores' shelves.

Andy Langer speaks to one of MEOW Day’s founders in the video above.
