Update -- Austin police have identified the victims as 31-year-old Rodney Carr Sr. and 13-year-old Rodney Carr Jr.

Earlier --A man and a 7-year-old child are dead after a motorcycle accident in East Austin Tuesday.

According to police, the motorcycle crashed into a parked car along the 1100 block of Berger Street in East Austin shortly before 5:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet. According to Austin/Travis County EMS, the seven-year-old was transported to Dell Children’s Hospital where the child was pronounced dead. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This is a very sad day for not only for the family, but also to start off this year, after having more or less a record year of fatalities last year, starting this one off so quickly," Lt. Doug Dukes with the Austin Police Department said.

These are Austin’s first and second traffic fatalities of 2013. There were 80 traffic fatalities in the city in 2012.
