Though fruits and vegetables are good for your children, an apple or cup of juice can actually cause harm to their teeth.
"Apples can be pretty acidic," dentist Christian Mathiesen said. "You wouldn't discourage kids from eating an apple – that's a good thing; it's a good snack – but you don't want them eating an apple all day long."
Mathiesen is not discouraging eating fruits or fruit beverages, but he says the frequency and acidity of those types of food and drink matter. His advice to parents: Don't omit any healthy fruits or beverages, but do pay attention to how much your kids are eating or drinking them.
"Just make sure they drink it down quickly," Mathiesen said. "And that they don't sip it over a long period of time."
