The world of transportation has changed a great deal in the last 100 years.
In the year 1900, there were only about 4,000 cars on the road and gasoline was only sold in hardware stores, often out of barrels.
By 1935, the new demand for gasoline led to a landscape dotted with 200,000 pumps of different styles. The new filling stations gave drivers the chance to pull off to the side of the road and refuel safely away from traffic. The new style of fueling station quickly became the standard.
