You can help local middle school students in need develop critical math and science skills this year.

Simply pick up a few extra school supplies when you're out shopping for the upcoming school year.

News 8 Austin and our parent company Time Warner Cable will be collecting graph paper, pens, calculators and markers during our Collect 2 Connect back to school drive benefiting the Boys and Girls Club.

From Aug. 2 through Aug. 25, drop off the supplies at all Austin-area TWC retail locations.

A Fill-A-Cable Truck Back to School Drive will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 7:05 p.m. at Dell Diamond. The Round Rock Express will take on the Fresno Grizzlies. Bring your donations and get a free ticket to the game!

You can also bring supplies to any of the Pretty in Pink or Ferris Bueller’s Day Off screenings on Aug. 3 or 4 at the Paramount Theatre. You will be entered into a contest to win a film party for you and 49 of your closest friends. You could also win an overnight stay at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel.

Collect 2 Connect is just one part of Time Warner Cables signature philanthropic initiative Connect A Million Minds. The cable company is spending $100 million over the next five years to encourage kids to learn those tougher subjects.
