Families are invited to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to explore snakes Thursday, the last day of the center's summer series "Nature Nights."

Snake handlers will show people live snakes and teach about the benefits they bring to Central Texas.

"It'd be great to see folks with the understanding that these animals are not blood thirsty, scaly animals coming out to hurt people. They're out there, doing what they do, interacting with their natural environment," Austin Park Ranger David Papke said.

Nature Night will happen from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and admission is free. For more information visit wildflower.org.
