With their bright white body and yellow crest, these handsome birds have been a favorite of bird keepers for centuries.
These birds can live 50-60 years, are very intelligent and can be trained relatively quickly with practice and consistency. But be careful and respect the beak, these birds can be destructive if given the chance and could give you a nasty nip if they are not happy.
Diana Beck rescues parrots of all shapes and sizes, including various types of Cockatoos, and tells us more about what she loves about the Lesser Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo.
"They have a lot of energy. If they want attention, they will yell to you and they'll chase you. They're just funny little birds," she said. "They don't talk too much, but I think it's their energy that I like about them."
They also can become overweight if they eat too many nuts, so be sure to feed a nice variety of foods including fruits and berries.
The Lesser Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo and all birds are not part-time pets. These birds crave interaction and playtime with their humans at least three hours out of their cage every day, so be sure you are prepared before you bring one home.
