If you can name a type of athletic competition in the Lone Star State, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco probably has an exhibit related to it.

The museum honors athletes, coaches and others in the state that have risen to the highest level.

"We are very well known for our golf, very well known for football, basketball,” Steve Fallon with the Texas Sports Hall of Fame said. “I can't think of a state that would match the state of Texas in any sport."

Fame inductees include head coaches, heavyweights, rodeo cowboys and Heisman Trophy winners. The sports are diverse too, ranging from football to hockey.

For visitors, the museum allows younger generations to experience the great athletes who were in their prime decades earlier.

"It's a way for Texas sports history to come to life," Fallon said.

Each year, the public makes nominations that are voted on by a selection committee.

"Very solid class this year,” Fallon said. “Talk about one of the great golfers in the state of Texas, Fred Couples. Mack Brown, what he's done over the last 15 years over at the University of Texas. Andre Ware, Heisman Trophy winner, I could go on and on."

The latest group of inductees will be honored Wednesday in Waco. Click here for more information.
