A Saturday morning fire left 11 people displaced from their apartments, according to a spokesperson with the Austin Fire Department.
The spokesperson said they were called to the scene around 7 a.m., and heavy fire prompted them to call a second alarm just before 7:30 a.m.
The fire affected four units in one of the complex’s buildings, but only two sustained fire damage. The others sustained mainly electrical damage.
According to AFD, the fire was knocked down by 8 a.m.
Fire investigators determined that an improperly disposed cigarette started the blaze.
They estimate $50,000 in structural damage and $25,000 worth of contents destroyed.
