Critics have been falling all over “Rise” app for one reason -- it's so clean and simple to use. To change the alarm time, simply slide the time up or down. Tap above or below it to fine tune by five-minute increments. Then, just slide in from the right to turn the alarm on, slide in from the left to turn it off. You can also customize a relaxing playlist to help lull you to sleep. “Rise” is free for a limited amount of time, after which it’ll jump back up to its regular price of $1.99.
Or, you can go the complete opposite direction for a purposely unclean alarm clock. With the “Shrek Alarm” app, kids can poke the world's most famous ogre to get reactions out of him, some funny, some vulgar, some angry.
When it's bedtime, Shrek helps put your child asleep by falling asleep himself. As he beds down, he starts to fade away and the app dims. When it's time to wake up Shrek rises, shines and starts shouting at you to do the same.
The app has other features like weather, which feature Shrek's swamp in whatever conditions you can expect at home, plus a stopwatch that has Shrek jogging alongside the running clock. “Shrek Alarm” is an iOS and Android app for $1.99.
