With more than 60 vendors at the Craft Riot Summer Show, shoppers took their time looking around to see what caught their eye.
"A lot of really cool art, a lot of really creative ideas, innovative stuff that I haven't seen before," Amy Exah, one shopper, said. "I think Austin is full of smart creative people who think outside of the box."
The artists themselves wouldn't disagree.
"Yeah there's definitely a lot of talent in Austin,” German said. “I think we get overshadowed by the music a lot but there are a lot of artists here and I'm glad that there are starting to become more shows like this."
Shows that expose those talents to the rest of the community...
"It's an opportunity to get the masses to see your work, whether they buy a piece here or take a card and buy it online later, or at a future show,” German said. “They've seen the work and they know it's out there."
The people who see that work are among those who love to support the local community.
"The thing I love about Austin is that small businesses make Austin,” said one shopper. “So the combination of art and small business and this is what you get."
The show is one of Austin Craft Riot's larger events, but the group also hosts smaller craft parties and swaps.
