Moving day is always a hassle, but this weekend some people had a very hard time moving into the University Estates Apartments in East Austin.
Renters told us they spent hours waiting in line, only to find the rooms they were given weren't what was promised. Some said the rooms weren't clean or were attached to common areas that weren't clean.
And management, the renters said, told them they were just out of luck.
"So I find mold in my bathroom, the carpet in my bedroom. You can see exposed concrete like someone just threw the carpet there and didn't bother to actually install it," Irma Vidic, a UT senior said.
“You know, other places, his was just filthy, plus it's not what we asked for, but other people had mold and bugs -- roaches crawling out of the vents, bugs in the refrigerator. I mean, that's not acceptable," said Susan O’Neal, a UT parent.
"You know, I did not expect to walk into a dirty apartment. They said the roommates have already been living there for a year,” said Vivek Singhal, a UT doctoral candidate. “That's no excuse, right? I mean, I paid for a clean apartment."
YNN tried talking to University Estates staff and management, but they refused to comment.
