There's nothing like a soft, cuddly friend to break a shy girl out of her shell.
Gabriela, 14, and Lizbeth, 9, were all smiles when they met up with us at the Austin Animal Center on a recent day.
"Yeah, when I first meet you, I'm going to be kind of shy, but once I get to know you, you know," Gabriela said.
The girls love hanging out with friends, going to school and animals. One lap around the animal center and they wanted to take all the animals home with them. Choosing a favorite was impossible.
"I don't know, I like them all, can't really pick," Gabriela said.
Like any sister duo, at times, there's a bit of contention.
"We may bicker at each other, but in the end we know we love each other," Gabriela said.
They're looking forward to adding parents to the mix and have been planning activities they can do with a mom.
"Take me to get my nails done and get some candy after that," Lizbeth said.
"With a dad I guess you could say, maybe like, I kind of want to go hunting, so maybe that kind of stuff," Gabriela said.
"A dad would take me to the animal shelter and get me at least two pets," Lizbeth said.
Now, more than ever, they want a family they can depend on to be there for both of them. They aren't picky about the parents, as long as they're loving.
"I don't really care, as long as they're nice to me, spoil me cause I've never been spoiled," Lizbeth said.
"I want a family that actually cares about me and will love me," Gabriela said.
Gabby and Lizzy are honor roll students and are excited for their upcoming school year. They hope to find a forever family that can help them with their studies.
