Update 8:15 a.m.:
Police now have a man who barricaded himself in a Southeast Austin car dealership in custody.
Police say the man tried to flee the building, but was taken down by a police K9. He's been taken for treatment for minor injuries.
Austin Police are on the scene of a SWAT situation at a car dealership in Southeast Austin this morning.
They say they are negotiating with a suspect who is inside the South Point Nissan Dealership on the Interstate 35 frontage road just south of Stassney Lane.
Officers said they responded to a 911 hang-up call at the dealership at 2:30 a.m. and made eye contact with a man inside. They then lost a visual. Police say the man started a small fire inside the dealership. Austin Fire Department has also responded, as did the bomb squad, but firefighters are on standby until police make the building safe.
The situation is causing backups on I-35 as onlookers slow to see what’s happening on the frontage road. The frontage road is blocked to traffic as a precaution.
