A northeast Austin home was destroyed in a fire early Tuesday morning.
The fire started on a bamboo fence and spread to the house along the 11300 block of April Drive.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, the blaze was spreading so quickly that crews fought the fire defensively. Officials with the Austin Fire Department advised neighbors to hose down their roofs and gutters to extinguish any embers which may have spread.
One person was home at the time and escaped without injury. Another person lived at the home, but was away on vacation at the time.
The fire was ruled accidental, but the cause is undetermined.
About $100,000 worth of damage was done to the structure and about $50,000 worth of the home’s contents were destroyed.
