Bobby Loftin, 20, was arrested Monday morning after police say he attacked a young woman on the hike-and-bike in trail East Austin.
Loftin had waited in bushes along the trail near Festival Beach Park when he sprung out and attacked a woman in her early 30s just before 10 a.m., according to Cpl. David Boyd with the Austin Police Department.
The woman was able to quickly fight Loftin off who then fled the scene, according to police. Several other joggers witnessed the attack and called 911.
A member of APD’s park patrol was nearby and quickly responded. He spoke with a witness who spotted a man who looked like the suspect hiding in bushes. The officer detained the man and he has been positively identified as Loftin. He was armed, but police have not disclosed what type of weapon he had.
Loftin was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.
Police are now searching for other similar crimes in the area which the Loftin may also be responsible for.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
