The city of Austin’s Code Compliance Department issued a “stop work order” for the embattled Austin Aquarium.
The city said the order was issued after code compliance learned that workers at the aquarium were pouring concrete, something that went beyond the scope of their current permitting.
It’s not the first time the Austin Aquarium’s owners have run afoul of Austin’s Code Compliance Department.
The aquarium was keeping fish on site without a permit and city officials ordered Vince Covino, one of the owners behind the aquarium, to remove them until he obtained the right approvals.
In an extended Q & A distributed by the aquarium about the controversy, Vince Covino said he mistakenly believed the permits the aquarium had obtained allowed animals to be on site.
Covino told YNN in July that they are working with permit expediters whose job it is to make sure everything is up to code.
