Tuesday marks the eighth annual HAAM Benefit Day. The festivities kicked off early this morning at Whole Foods market.
The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, or HAAM, helps uninsured, low-income musicians have access to affordable health care. During HAAM Benefit Day, 250 businesses will donate 5 percent of every purchase to the nonprofit.
HAAM impacts the lives of more than 2,000 people, like musician John Pointer, who has diabetes.
"I can actually afford to get really good health care that’s sliding scale,” Pointer said. “It’s not free, it is subsidized by charity but they literally keep me alive, I get my insulin through HAAM."
On top of it all, there will be plenty of live music around town while you shop. There’s also a special show at ACL Live featuring Ray Benson, Jimmie Vaughan and other local favorites.
HAAM Benefit Day goes on until midnight. The event raised more than $300,000 last year. Click here for more information.
