University of Texas football legend James Street died Monday morning. He was 65 years old.
Street was the Longhorns quarterback in the late 1960s. A native of Longview, he played under coach Darrell Royal and helped lead the team to a national championship against Arkansas in 1969.
Street also played for the UT baseball team when he was a student and still lived in Austin to this day.
Current UT coach Mack Brown reached out on Twitter Monday morning following the news.
"Very sad day as we lost college FB great, good friend & wonderful man," he wrote.
