More than 137 people moved to Austin each day in 2012, making the city one of the fastest growing in the nation – though not as fast as you might think.
NerdWallet, a personal finance website, compiled a list of 2012's fastest growing cities in America. Because the website looked at the raw numbers of transplants rather than the number of newcomers as a percentage of the population, Austin landed at No. 25 on the list.
In total, a little more than 50,000 people moved to Austin last year. New York City, which nabbed to No. 1 spot on the list, added more than 263,000 newcomers during the same time period.
