Two men are in the hospital after two shooting incidents—one of which involving an Austin police officer—in North Austin Friday afternoon.
An Austin Police Department spokesman said officers were responding to gunshots which were heard around Cripple Creek Drive near Cook Elementary School.
When police arrived, they found one man who was shot in the leg with what appeared to be a stray bullet. He was outside working on his fence.
While officers were helping the man, they heard another gunshot on the next street over, Quail Ridge Drive.
There, they were confronted by a man with an assault rifle.
"The subject was ordered to put the gun down,” Assistant Police Chief Raul Munguia said. “He didn't comply. He actually raised the weapon towards the officers and the officers fired on the subject, striking him. The subject did go down and he was hit somewhere in the torso."
The man shot by officers and the neighbor were both taken to the hospital in unknown conditions.
