Central Texans laced up their sneakers for a race to beat a deadly disease.
On Sunday, hundreds turned out for the second-annual Brain Power 5K in Leander with one goal in mind—to help stomp out brain cancer.
Event organizers say it's the only 5K to raise awareness and money for brain cancer research in Central Texas.
Local doctors are also stressing the need to get the word out about the disease.
“Even though it's a small number of people when you compare the cancer to cancers like breast cancer, it's quite devastating and the outcomes are not very good,” Dr. Brian Vaillant with the Seton Brain and Spine Institute said.
The fundraising goal for this year's event is $30,000.
