Austin firefighters honored first responders in September 11th terrorist attacks.

AFD held a tower climb at Pleasant Valley Training Tower. Firefighters went up and down flights of stairs roughly equal to the height of the World Trade Center, in complete silence and in about 75 pounds of full gear.

Firefighters from Austin and surrounding areas have been participating in the memorial stair climb every year since the attacks, in 2001. The goal is to complete the climb for the 343 New York firefighters who died in action.

Each participating firefighter carried dog tags imprinted with the names of those firefighters.

The climb took about an hour and concluded with a moment of silence.
