Police put students at LBJ High School in East Austin on lockdown for 45 minutes Monday afternoon.

School leaders and neighbors reported hearing shots fired. As a precaution, LBJ high school was put on lockdown.

When APD officers responded to the call, they found three adults held up in a small shed-like house in a backyard. Police said it took some time bringing them into custody.

"We wanted to make sure we had a secure perimeter, especially with the school being here. And so we wanted to make sure nobody got through some loose ends or cracks. So therefore we waited till everything was in place and then we called these individuals out," Sgt. Carl Hendricks said.

Two men and a woman were taken into custody without incident. The three could face charges of firing a weapon in the city.

No one was injured. Police say they don't yet know why the handgun was fired in the first place. Two young children were also in the home at the time of the incident.

Police say they’re now safe with their grandmother.
