A festival Saturday offered local law enforcement a chance to get to know the people they protect and serve.

Hundreds of families turned out for the 10th-annual Sheriff's Extravaganza held at the Wells Branch Municipal Utility District.

"It's very important that law enforcement and the community have a good interaction so that when crimes happen, they are willing to report them and to know that there are certain things that we have to enforce to know that there's a limit to discretion," Kimberly Orts with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said.

A shooting lesson from a pro and a chance to wear some official gear gave 13-year-old Chad Bethel a new perspective on law enforcement.

"A lot more respect for them," Bethel said.

The Sheriff's Office next big event is National Night Out on Oct. 2. Click here for more information.
