Every child has their own set of challenges, but when you put in the work together to overcome them, the rewards make the hard times worth it.

Eleven-year-old Nalia is making great strides in learning and growing, but she needs a family to help her reach her full potential.

"Being in this building for as long as I've been, I've seen so many students progress. But to actually start at the bottom with one individual and see her come as far as she has, it makes me feel good that I had a part in that," teaching assistant Carmen Alvarado said.

Like any other child, Nalia loves to learn and play. She's made great strides in school in learning sign language, and completing puzzles and projects.

More than ever, she now needs the same support at home.

"I think that being in a family setting, where there’s structure and consistency involved,” Nalia’s case worker Anna Parris said. “That's going to give her the best opportunity to grow and blossom and reach her full potential."

Nalia has been in foster care for several years. Like many children waiting for a family, a place of permanence is what they dream of.

But for Nalia, it's crucial for her improvement.

"In Nalia's case, I think it's extra important because she needs the consistency and attention that only a family can give her," Parris said.

She lights up when doing the things she loves, and her happiness, spreads to all those around her.

"She's a sweet girl, and whoever adopts her, is going to be very rewarded," Alvarado said.
