Driver killed after South Austin crash
One person is dead following a serious car accident in South Austin Saturday evening.

Authorities say the driver of a red BMW headed northbound on Manchaca lost control shortly after 6 p.m.

The vehicle spun into the southbound lane where it was hit by a white Subaru headed the opposite direction.

Emergency crews took the other passenger of the BMW to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver was pronounced dead on scene. Police say the slippery roads may have been a factor.

"Right now, we do believe that weather was a factor and that the red BMW was driving at an unsafe speed for the weather conditions. The road was very slick when I showed up immediately after it happened," Fled Fletcher with the Austin Police Department said.

The driver of the Subaru was treated on scene for minor injuries.

No one else was hurt.
