Highway 183 to remain open, heavy truck load travel postponed
Update -- The shut down of parts of Highway 183 has been postponed, and the trucks will not move through Thursday. A Cedar Park spokesperson says the trucks did not arrive in Liberty Hill Wednesday night as expected.
Drivers can continue on with their commute as usual. The transport is now scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday.
Earlier -- If you're headed out the door onto Highway 183, beware. Parts of the highway will be closed Thursday morning to make room for some oversized loads.
Trucks are transporting 20-foot tall loads of large refrigeration units from an oil field in Liberty Hill to Houston. Officials are stopping all traffic signals along Highway 183 in Cedar Park as the trucks move through. Traffic officials say the trucks’ travel time in Cedar Park is estimated to start at 9 a.m. and last until at least noon.
Officials also warn to expect traffic to be at a “slow crawl.” Drivers wishing to avoid the headache should choose an alternate route, such as the Highway 183 Toll or Anderson Mill Road.
The equipment will move west along RM 620 and weave its way through Bastrop, Luling, Gonzalez and Shiner.
