As Travis County voters head to the voting booths this election season, they will be asked to vote on the Central Health District’s Proposition 1 which, if it passes, will raise area property taxes as a way to pay for increase health services and eventually a teaching hospital in Austin.
Local healthcare provider St. David’s HealthCare has come out against the proposal and, according to Colin Pope with the Austin Business Journal, many experts say St. David’s came to the game a little late to have any impact.
Pope said the proposition is likely to pass as it already has a “tremendous” amount of business support.
St. David’s decision to oppose the proposition will likely alienate them from many of the groups supporting Prop 1, including Seton Family of Hospitals and the Austin Chamber of Commerce, until after the election.
