Assistant Police Chief Sean Mannix with the Austin Police Department will take over as Cedar Park’s police chief in mid-January.

The move was announced Friday after months of identifying and vetting many candidates.

According Jenny Huerta, spokesperson for the City of Cedar Park, Chief Mannix first started his career as a police officer nearly 30 years ago in California. From there, he moved to Austin nine years later and moved up the ranks, eventually earning the rank of Assistant Police Chief in 2009.

As Cedar Park Police Chief, Mannix will lead 80 officers and more than 30 civilians and will manage an annual budget of about $8.5 million, according to Huerta.

Chief Henry Fluck, Cedar Park’s current top cop, announced in February that he is resigning, effective Dec. 31, after 12 years in Cedar Park.
