Austin police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 13-year-old girl found in Southeast Austin early Tuesday morning.

According to an Austin Police Department spokesperson, the girl was dropped off at a house on Lakehurst Drive. They said it happened Tuesday morning, but did not give a time.

The teen was not breathing when she was found by responding emergency crews. CPR was performed, but she was pronounced dead soon after.

"It's tragic,” neighbor Glenn Howell said. “It hits so close to home, I have kids myself, 13—same age."

Police are speaking with the teen’s friend, who was said to have been in the car with the girl, and who neighbors say they heard call for help.

Investigators are looking for a dark colored vehicle which they believe was used to transport the girl to the house.

"My heart goes out to them,” Howell said. “It's just sad. There's really no words to say it.
