Cold weather has seemed to have made a semi-permanent stay in Austin, but some residents say the frigid temps are a welcome alternative to the steamy summers.

Ryan Lutu lives in Austin but is originally from Seattle. He said the winter weather is a good balance to Austin's sweltering heat.

"It's a nice reprieve from the 115-degree weather we've been having in the summer," he said.

Austin didn’t see any snow Friday, but rather a slick mix of ice, sleet and rain which made the morning commute a struggle.

Megan Munch is a grad student who just moved to town Wednesday. She is a native of New Hampshire, so any cold snap to her is considered amateur.

"Maybe I worry for Texas drivers who are afraid of it but I grew up driving on ice," she said."It was nine degrees up there today so this isn't too bad. If I don't have to be in coat that looks like a sleeping bag and down to my knees, I'm good."
