Healthy living is one of the most popular resolutions each new year and one local business is helping to keep people motivated with a month-long challenge.

Whole Foods kicked off its 28-day healthy food challenge on Saturday. They are challenging the participants to eat local, fresh and unprocessed food whenever they can.

“As soon as you pick a fruit of vegetable, it is actually decomposing the second you pick that, but if we are getting it locally from a farm—like Johnson's Backyard Garden or Boggy Creek—it is actually getting to the grocery store in like 4 hours later and you can pick that up with all of its flavor and nutrients,” healthy eating specialist Dan Marek said.

Kelly Dennis is a healthy eating specialist at Whole Foods. She suggests picking foods to eat by looking at their nutritional content inside.

“We want to choose foods that have a lot of nutrients per calorie,” Dennis said. “Those foods are going to be the best option to eat because you can eat more of them and you will be getting more and more nutrients."

The 28 day challenge is totally free. Go to WholeFoodsMarket.com to find out more.
