Update-- Both northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 35 have reopened following a deadly wreck involving an 18-wheeler.

The outside lane on the northbound side will be closed between Onion Creek Parkway and the Slaughter Creek overpass at 8 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday to repair damaged guardrail, according to a TxDOT spokesperson.

A police spokesperson also said the Slaughter Creek overpass will likely be closed for another 24 to 48 hours while inspectors check for structural damage.

Earlier-- All travel lanes of Interstate 35 near Slaughter Lane were closed early Tuesday afternoon after a deadly wreck involving an 18-wheeler.

It’s unclear if the person pronounced dead at the scene was the truck’s driver or someone else.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo took to Twitter, warning Austinites to expect a long delay and advised drivers to use Highway 130 instead.

An investigation into the wreck is underway and the highway is expected to be closed for several hours.
