Central Texans celebrate MLK Day
Celebrations for Martin Luther King Jr. Day will take place throughout Central Texas Monday.
In Austin, a community march kicked off at 9 a.m. with a short program at the MLK statue at the University of Texas. After that, there will be a march to the Capitol to Huston-Tillotson University for a community festival that lasts until 3 p.m.
The Taylor MLK parade kicks off at Robinson Park Pavilion at 9 a.m. and continues at Taylor City Hall until noon.
The City of San Marcos will host a groundbreaking for a new sculpture commemorating the civil rights legacy of President Lyndon Johnson and Dr. King.
The event starts with a ceremony at the Hays County Courthouse at 10 a.m. Participants will march from the courthouse to the memorial site. Groundbreaking is set to take place at the corner of LBJ Drive and MLK Street at 11 a.m.
