In his State of the City address, Mayor Lee Leffingwell highlighted the milestones of 2012 and looked forward to a full agenda in 2013.
Mayor Lee Leffingwell delivered his address before the Real Estate Council of Austin Tuesday. He said the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos region has the lowest unemployment rate--around five-percent--of any comparable area.
Leffingwell said the region should continue to build upon its tech reputation. Over the past two years, he says, venture capitalists have invested more than $1.5 billion dollars in Central Texas businesses.
The mayor says Austin's ability to always evolve is what makes it one of the most widely admired and emulated cities in the country.
"During my lifetime here, I can tell you that there have been only two constants: change and people complaining about change,” Mayor Leffingwell said. “The truth is change is life, and complaining has an opposite. It’s called creating."
Leffingwell says he will spend every single day he's in office tackling the region's traffic congestion. He also wants to see urban rail put before voters before the end of his term in 2014.
