Students protest preacher’s anti-homosexual, anti premarital sex message

“Free condoms” was among the chants that came from University of Texas students Friday as they protested a radically conservative preacher who was making his annual stop at The 40 Acres.
“Brother Jed Smock” has visited the campus for almost four decades, and travels to universities all over the country to lecture students about premarital sex and homosexuality.
"I'm here to call students to repent, and repent means to turn students away from all sin,” Smock said.
Smock's radically conservative message inspired dozens of students to oppose him Friday. The Texas Secular Humanists decided to take a stand--they rounded up about 500 condoms to hand out to students as they passed by.
"Women shouldn't feel persecuted on campus,” Daniel Munoz with Texas Secular Humanists said. “Gay people shouldn't feel persecuted on campus. We're not fighting a revolution this is just bare minimum respect everyone deserves."
Jordan Stephens thinks his message won't be received well in the liberal college town of Austin.
"If you're wearing something like that and walking around with a stick with a cross on it acting like a prophet I think you're a little crazy," she said.
Despite the reactions to his preaching, the protests didn’t’ phase Brother Smock.
"Like a farmer I'm out here planting seeds, the farmer does not expect his crop a week later, a month later but it comes several months later," Smock said.
Brother Jed will also visit Texas State this week.
