A suspect in a home burglary was killed Thursday night in a car accident when he and another suspect attempted to flee the scene, according to police.
A spokesperson for the Austin Police Department said they received a 911 call around 11:30 p.m. which said several people were attempted to break down the door of a home on Razil Court in South Austin.
First officer responding to the scene spotted a silver car speeding away from the home. Another officer spotted the same car run a red light nearby.
By the time officers caught up with the vehicle, the driver had wrecked the car on Riddle Road. One of the passengers was killed in the crash.
The driver fled the scene on foot, and was later apprehended off of Slaughter Lane.
“We rely on the community all the time to call 911 and help us out,” Cpl. Anthony Hipolito said. “They are the eyes and ears and whoever called did a wonderful job, gave a good description and stayed on the phone with 911 until the officers were able to get there real quick.”
Investigators say the arrested man was taken to the hospital for minor injuries related to the crash.
