Fans seemed to enjoy the mostly Latin lineup at Auditorium Shores on Thursday night, as well as a little more space.
After last year, when tens of thousands of people came out to see The Shins, event organizers decided to add space for more people at the venue.
For this year’s festival, they turned the lawn of the Long Center into an extension of Auditorium Shores.
"The festival keeps growing every year, and it was very, very crowded for the free concerts last year,” Long Center Managing Director Paul Beutel said. “They needed to expand the room and it just made more sense for it to cross the street and head up here onto our lawn and on to our terrace."
By opening up the venue across the street, the Long Center projects they've increased the capacity of the show by about 4,000 people.
The biggest act of the weekend is expected to be The Flaming Lips on Friday night.
