Lawmakers heard testimony Thursday from both sides of controversial proposed legislation called the “Campus Carry” bill.
On one side of the argument are campus administrators and security officials who worry that allowing guns on college grounds would actually be more dangerous for students.
On the other, there are gun rights advocates who think concealed carry permits should extend onto campus. In light of violent campus shooting incidents like at Virginia Tech, concealed carry permit holders say they should be allowed to have a means to defend themselves.
This is the third session in a row bills aiming to lift gun-free zone designations on college campuses across the state.
