The water woes of Spicewood Beach residents could soon be over.

The Lower Colorado River Authority approved a new water treatment plant which will serve the small Burnet County community.

Spicewood Beach has been under emergency drought restrictions for nearly a year. Last January, the LCRA announced that wells in the area were running dry because of the drought—a problem the community is still dealing with.

"It only produces 10-15 thousand gallons of water a day,” Ryan Rowney, LCRA Water Operations Manager said. “So we supplement the supply with the trucking operation."

The trucking operation brings in water from other places, but is only a temporary solution.

The new water treatment plant will cost $1.2 million and should be online by the end of the summer, meaning Spicewood Beach will get its water from Lake Travis rather than the wells which are running dry.
