A former U.S. Navy Seal sniper, killed while helping a veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder, will be laid to rest Tuesday at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
At his Texas-sized memorial in Dallas’ Cowboys Stadium, Chief Petty Officer Chris Kyle was honored as a sniper with lethal accuracy, an author and a proud Texan.
On Tuesday, thousands of cars, motorcycles and buses are expected to accompany the procession to the Texas State Cemetery.
Police estimate that the group should reach Austin around 11:30 a.m.
"It's important for the public to expect traffic delays on I-35 in the early afternoon hours. If they need to plan an alternate route to get where they're going, they need to do so accordingly," Cpl. David Body said.
The procession will exit southbound Interstate 35 at Sixth Street and will proceed to the State Cemetery at 7th and Navasota streets.
The ceremony will be closed to the public. Navasota and Comal streets will be closed between 7th and 11th Streets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
