Your Driver's Ed: Cleaning battery corrosion

A strong battery is vital to get your car going, but batteries require care to stay healthy.


Corrosion is the number one enemy to a car battery. It can affect the battery's connections and can keep a car from starting. You can spot obvious corrosion around the terminals of the battery.


To clean the corrosion away, first put on gloves—batteries contain acid which can be harmful to your skin.


Next, with an old toothbrush and a paste consisting of water and baking soda, scrub away.
